The History of the Manor 

If you want to know what Sweden was like in the 14th century, you should ask the manor itself, for it was around that time that the first spade was turned to build Hooks Herrgård. Herger Joarsson, ancestor of the Oxenstierna family, is the first known owner who enjoyed a few good years at Hook before he donated the manor to Nydala Monastery.

Hooks Herrgård was ennobled. Almost at least… The noble family Stedt took over in the 18th century and began the changes visible today; wings and salons and the grand main building. In a noble manner, lavish parties were held and royalty were often guests. During this time, Captain Elin or The White Lady was known as the manor's house ghost.

Years went by, and in 1923 the manor became a pension. Baroness Lillemor Åkerhielm and Rudolf Isoz had taken over and built in 1934 what we now consider one of the manor's most important elements; the golf course, initially with four holes. It’s no wonder that golf has almost a cult status at the manor.

The Edberg Family

In the 1960s, things happened. It was then that the current owner, the Edberg Family, entered the scene. With golf club in hand, Sigvard Edberg (with support from Steiner Öster) took over the manor. And despite people apparently thinking Sigvard had a “fancy idea,” he started building conference facilities and declared: “here we will play golf and hold conferences,” and so it became.

But the dreams didn’t stop at conferences or golf. In 2003, the Edberg Family Hotel was formed along with other Swedish establishments, all now standing on their own feet, including Hooks Herrgård. The dreams also included architect Per Öberg designing a 1,300 square meter spa that has since 2014 been resting by the manor and Lake Hoka.

The family dream remains and continues to develop, promises Hooks Herrgård's CEO Hans Edberg, who belongs to the third generation.

Jubilee Year 2023

In 2023, Hooks Herrgård celebrated 100 years as a hotel and 60 years with the Edberg Family as owners. Barbro, Stefan, and Hans Edberg share the history of the manor, the years at Hook, and their visions.
